The Company She Keeps // W Złym Towarzystwie

The Company She Keeps by Georgia Durante is an autobiography, which isn't my usual favoured genre to go for. However this book was recommended to me by my mum who read the book and enjoyed it so much that she thought I would too. She couldn't be more right. 

W Złym Towarzystwie to autobiografia. Zwykle nie czytam autobiografii jednak tą książke poleciła mi moja mama, która sama ją przeczytała i była pewna że mi się spodoba. Miała kompletną racje!

Georgia Durante is a former supermodel also known as the "Kodak Girl" after she successfully modelled for the company. Georgia grew up in an Italian family in Rochester, New York and originally started modelling at the young age of 12. Due to her modelling job at Kodak she became known as the most photographed girl in the country by the age of 17 and her iconic life sized cardboard cut out in a bikini stood in 80,000 drug stores and camera shops. As she explains in her book, her modelling career meant that she travelled the world, seeing and experiencing the most amazing things.

Georgia Durante jest byłą supermodelką znaną również jako "Dziewczyna Kodak" po jej udanym modelowaniu dla tej firmy. Georgia dorastała we Włoskiej rodzinie w Rochester, Nowy York, a rozpoczęła modeling w wiekuj 12 lat. Ze względu na jej pracę modelki dla Kodak, stała się najbardziej fotografowaną dziewczyną w USA w wieku 17 lat a jej charakterystyczne wycięcie z kartonu w bikini stanęło w 80,000 drogeriach oraz sklepach fotograficznych. Jak wyjaśnia w swojej książce, kariera modelki oznaczała że mogła podróżować po całym Świecie. patrząc i przeżywając niesamowite rzeczy.

However, the main theme in the book is not Georgia's modelling but her participation in the Italian mob in USA. As soon as Georgia started her career she found herself falling into the Mafia life, practically becoming their getaway driver as a teenager and ended up marrying into the mob itself. 

Jednak głownym tematem w książce nie jest modelowanie Georgi ale jej udział we Włoskiej mafii w USA. Szybko po rozpoczęciu kariery, Georgia wpadła w życie mafii, praktycznie stając się ich kierowcą w ucieczkach jako nastolatka, i niedługo póżniej poślubiając członka mafii.

Georgia's life has been a true rollercoaster - with more downs than up's unfortunately. Whenever she thought that there was some hope for her life improving and for her to become happy again, someone or something from her past would always re-enter her life to haunt her. As a reader you realise that authors childhood was taken from her as soon as she started modelling. She had to grow up at a very young age, and not by choice. 

Życie Georgi było jak kolejka górska - niestety z większą ilością dołków niż górek. Za każdym razem gdy miała nadzieje że jej życie się zmieni na lepsze, i że może być znowu szczęśliwa. coś lub ktoś z jej przeszłości zawsze wracało aby ją prześladować. Jako czytelnik, zdajesz sobie sprawę że dzieciństwo autorki zostało od niej zabrane jak zaczęła karierę modelingu. Dorosła w bardzo młodym wieku, lecz nie miała wyboru. 

In this book she tells her whole life story including her professional as well as private life letting the readers get to know her on a completely personal level. I never imagined that this book would make me feel the way I do now that I've finished it.  

W jej książce, Georgia opowiada historie jej całego życia, profesjonalnego oraz prywatnego. pozwalając czytelnikom poznać ją na kompletnie osobistym poziomie. Nie wyobrażałam sobie że będę w takim stanie po skończeniu tej książki.

The book is written chronologically which is so helpful when reading an autobiography of someone's whole life as firstly it makes it easier to follow through and secondly it makes you feel that as a reader you are growing and experiencing everything with the author. It saddens me to say that there are things mentioned in this book more often than they should be that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemies that Georgia Durante had to go through. 

Książka napisana jest chronologicznie co jest pomocne podczas czytania autobiografii czyjegoś całego życia ponieważ po pierwsze, w ten sposób jest łatwiej nadążyć za historią a po drugie, czytelnik się czuje że rośnie i przeżywa wszystko razem z autorką. Smuci mnie to że są rzeczy w tej książce które są wspominane częściej niż powinny - rzeczy które Georgia Durante musiała przeżyć których ja bym nawet nigdy nie życzyła moim najgorszym wrogom. 

Starting with her childhood years, Georgia Durante explains how she grew up and what made her the way she was. From a young age, her beauty always stuck out which made young girls reject her from jealousy. As she starts growing up, she gets involved in the mob and the mafia life that she hadn't realised surrounded her for her whole childhood in Rochester, soon meeting Joe, her first husband and marrying into the mob itself. I have always been interested in learning about the mafia and so that aspect of the book drew me in however I had never realised the moral consequences that come and the extent of them with the involvement in the mafia. Neither did she until she wanted to leave her husband which she realised would be much harder than she ever imagined. While reading the book you realise that from that moment on Georgia's life became a living hell. No matter how hard she tried to be happy, who she married, and how much she tried to move on and to start a fresh life with her children, Georgia's past and her connections to the mafia were always going to follow her wherever she went. It's a bond you make for life whether you realise it or not, time certainly proves it. 

Zaczynając od dzieciństwa, Georgia Durante wyjaśnia jak dorastała i co sprawiło że jej droga życiowa wyglądała tak a nie inaczej. Od młodego wieku, jej piękno zawsze się odznaczało od innych dziewczyn które jej zazdrościły co czyniło że ją wiecznie odrzucali. Gdy zaczęła dorastać, zaczęła się też angażować w życie mafii które nie zdawała sobie sprawy że ją otaczało przez jej całe dziecinnstwo w Rochester. Jako nastolatka, Georgia zakochała się w Joe, jej pierwszym mężu i go poślubiła, wkraczając w centrum mafii w Rochester. Mafia mnie zawsze interesowała a więc ten aspekt książki mnie wciągnął jednak nigdy nie zdawałam sobie sprawy z moralnych konsekwencji które są dołączone do udziału w mafii. Georgia też widocznie sobie nie zdawała z tego sprawy dopóki nie próbowała opuścić męża które się okazało znacznie trudniejsze niż ona oczekiwała. Podczas czytania książki zdajesz sobie sprawe że od tamtego momentu, życie Georgi stało się piekłem. Nie ważne jak bardzo starała się być szczęśliwą, za kogo wyszła, i jak bardzo próbowała rozpocząć nowe życie, Georgi przeszłość oraz jej połączenia do mafii za nią chodziło gdzie kolwiek by nie poszła. To jest połączenie na życie. 

Today, Georgia Durante is a different person, with a happy family, fulfilled in her life, having left her haunting past far behind her without looking back. I'd love to read about how her life has changed since she published The Company She Keeps. The author is a true inspiration in more than one aspect of life and the difficult stages of it a person can go through. This book helps you realise the important values of life, the main one being family and how these values can get you through even the toughest of times. It is definitely a book after which you will look at life from a different angle and by the end of the book you don't know whether to feel happy for her for escaping her troubled life or whether let the sympathy for what she had to go through drown you. 

Dzisiaj, Georgia Durante jest inną osobą z szczęśliwą rodziną, spełniona w życiu, po zostawieniu toksycznej historii za sobą. Chciałabym przeczytać o tym jak jej życie się zmieniło odkąd napisała tą książke. Autorka jest prawdziwą inspiracją w więcej niż jednym aspekcie życia oraz sytuacjach przez które człowiek może przechodzić.Ta książka pomaga ci zdać sobie sprawe z ważnych wartości życia, głównym będąc rodzina. Jest to z pewnością książka po której napewno będziesz patrzyć na życie z innej perspektywy. 

I highly recommend this book to everyone and anyone. I must admit, it was a long read, but I'm not complaining as I enjoyed every bit of it. It also shows just how much the author has to share with her readers.
